A majority of college students may not be able to recognize when they have test anxiety. Even if they can some don’t know how to manage and deal with it. Recognizing test anxiety can be fairly easy. Dealing with test anxiety can put you in control, essentially eliminating test anxiety altogether.

Recognizing signs of test anxiety

•Increased heart rate while taking a test

•Knowing information but not being able to concentrate come test time

•Feeling anxious before a test

If any of these describe you, then it is safe to say you may suffer from test anxiety. Once you are able to identify the symptoms then you are ready to start dealing with your issues.

I found the article above really helpful in dealing with test anxiety. Sometimes you may not feel like you studied enough or waited too long to study. Don’t fret. You can and will be able to pull it off. Just take control of your emotions. If you don’t do well on a test use that as a learning opportunity and better yourself for the next one.

I always say the first test of the semester is always the hardest because you’re not used to that professor’s particular testing style. Once you know what to expect this can also take away from feeling test anxiety.

While testing can be stressful it is something that is important for proving that you are actually learning. Not preparing for tests and doing poorly never got anybody anywhere. Recognizing the source of your test anxiety and learning to control it will help you to be successful.
